Saratoga Country Club's Instruction Team
Micah Hall, PGA | Director of Golf Instruction
Coach Micah has taught the game of golf for over 18 years at Saratoga Country Club. He considers teaching the game to be his dream job and the culmination of a lifetime of learning, stemming from dedicated study of the human body, its movements, its variations, and how to improve upon the limitations of individual players. As he has quietly gone about his work in a tucked away corner of Silicon Valley, so many people who have taken lessons from him consider him the best teacher you've never heard of! Parents are doubly pleased by his use of science and math in teaching their kids. Adults find his explanations thorough, understandable, and adjusted to their technical interest level. If you are a swing geek, he's right there with you. If you just want to know what to do, he gets that, too!
With an extensive background in scientific and medical education, Micah brings extraordinary insights into his teaching approach: “Our teaching philosophy emphasizes efficiency of ball-striking catered to the individual player. Most recreational players spend their entire golf career without ever hitting a golf ball correctly on a consistent basis, because they never consistently get their body into a position to hit a ball correctly."
A common reaction from a new student is “Wow! That makes so much sense – why didn’t anyone teach me that before?”
Coach Micah continues: "In my 20+ years of teaching the game both here at the Club and elsewhere, I have learned as much from my students as they from me; the most impactful thing is that all golfers can achieve a correct and efficient strike of the ball, whether with a driver, a putter, or any club in between. Each player’s swing is an individual action unique to their own abilities and body, but efficient swings have certain things in common with all other efficient swings, and those common features can be learned and repeated consistently within that individual’s traits. Most players who struggle to hit well consistently, despite years of effort, share a few common errors in their swings, often from misconceptions about what they are trying to do. We can clear up any misconceptions, finally get your body in a good position to learn to strike a ball correctly, and build your best swing from there. Discovering your best golf swing is a collaborative effort between the instructor and the player, and that teamwork (and the relationship it builds) is the most rewarding aspect of what I am privileged to do here at Saratoga CC!”
